CU Boulder Faculty Tuesday Concert

  • Grusin Music Hall 1020 18th Street Boulder, CO, 80302 United States (map)

Bassoonist Yoshi Ishikawa and vocalist Annika Socolofsky, together with Carpe Diem String Quartet, pianist Brenda Ishikawa and double bassist Susan Cahill, present a concert of powerful modern masterworks. Dive into Caroline Shaw’s colorful work "Blueprint," which "…began its life as a harmonic reduction, a kind of floor plan, of Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 18 No. 6." Annika Socolofsky’s evocative composition, "Don’t Say a Word," arranged for voice and strings, "…serves to confront centuries of damaging lessons taught to young children by retelling old lullaby texts for a new, queer era." Gianett Keller’s "Ebauch" paints musical imagery through groundbreaking extended techniques, while Jean Françaix's delightful bassoon and strings masterwork adds a playful finale to this unmissable performance.

Renowned CU Boulder College of Music faculty artists perform with students and colleagues in chamber music recitals featuring world premieres and beloved classics. Join us for this free series in person at Grusin Music Hall or via livestream most Tuesdays August through March.
